9/11 Peace & Unity Concert

The Cathedral at St. John the Divine
A House of Prayer for All People
1047 Amsterdam Avenue
4:00pm on September 11, 2011

Join Oregonians in New York as we honor those lost on 9/11 and look ahead to a world comprised of peace and understanding.

Vespers Prayers for the Cities of the World
The Cathedral's Vesper service will offer prayers for global peace, compassion and reconciliation, especially in cities around the world. New York was the site of terrible devastation ten years ago, just as many cities have been and continue to be vulnerable to violence and calamity. The Cathedral service will feature music, readings, and messages of hope from national and international guests as well as the New York community.

The Portland (Oregon) Gay Men's Chorus will perform "BraveSouls and Dreamers": a cantata by composer Robert Seeley and librettist Robert Espindola in contemplation of war and peace inspired by the words of Gandhi, Jesus, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Isaiah, Confucius, Buddha, and the Qur'an.

The Right Reverend Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire will conduct the Portland Gay Men's Chorus and the New York City Gay Men's Chorus in a piece written by Robert Seeley and Phillip Littell titled Never Ever.

This event is open to the public,
so please extend this invitation to all

There is no admission charge

Mayor Bloomberg's Invitation
"We can never change what happened on 9/11, but we have the power to remember, to pray, and to create hope for a better future. As you prepare to visit New York once again, I join you in honoring the lives of those we lost, and in finding inspiration in the examples they left us."
